“John Jay offers a sense of community for every kind of student through the various clubs and student led organizations on campus,” says Savannah Smith ’26, a forensic psychology major and Student Council Treasurer. “By joining the John Jay Student Council, the Black Student Union, the Urban Male Initiative, and Sistah Circle, I found a sense of belonging and empowerment. As a member of the Student Council Executive Board, I’ve met wonderful people and have been exposed to many learning opportunities. Aside from keeping the budget organized, producing events, and launching initiatives, I get to sit on important committees that set the tone for the student and faculty experience at John Jay.”

Beyond her work in student organizations, Smith values the transformative experiences she has in the classroom. “I’ve had the chance to make meaningful connections with faculty who have been a real source of guidance. Their courses are rigorous and engaging and it's clear they care about their students’ success,” she says. “My psychology courses have opened my eyes to different lenses within the field and have reaffirmed my passion for psychology and education.”
