Professor Nasta is a NYC resident who was born in Brooklyn and obtained his Masters Degree in Criminal Justice at John Jay College. Prior to teaching at John Jay he was the Chief Investigator in the Office of the Bronx County District Attorney, and he also was a former Inspector in the New York City Police Department
Professor Nasta joined the NYPD in 1967 and was promoted to Sergeant in 1973. At the same time he entered John Jay College of Criminal Justice as a part time student and went on to complete his Bachelors Degree and later a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice. In the years that followed, he rose steadily from the rank of Sergeant to Lieutenant, Captain, Deputy Inspector and finally to the rank of Inspector in 1996.During his highly diverse career he took part in numerous large scale Police Operations including Operation Pressure Point which improved the quality of life dramatically for residents of the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Professor Nasta also attended and graduated from Columbia University’s Police Management Institute in 1995.In September of 1996 based on his many accomplishments he was selected by the National Law Enforcement Memorial Association in Washington as their first “Police Officer of the Month.” Steve retired from the NYPD in 1999 with the satisfaction and knowledge that he had been a part of a team which dramatically reduced crime in NYC and helped make it one of the safest largest Cities in the nation.His retirement was short lived when he was appointed by the Bronx County District Attorney to be his Chief Detective Investigator. In this position he successfully managed and directed criminal investigations ranging from homicide investigations, narcotics and gang related cases, political corruption cases and internet crime cases. He served in this position for over eleven years.
