Bio

Robert A. Carotenuto, CPP, PCI, PSP has over 22 years of experience protecting cultural properties. Currently, he serves as Associate Vice President for Security at The New York Botanical Garden, where he has been head of security since 2010. Prior to joining The Garden, he was a member of The Metropolitan Museum of Art Security team for sixteen years, serving as Associate Security Manager for Physical Security and Emergency Operations from 2004 to 2010. He chairs the ASIS International Cultural Properties Council and was past chair and is present Vice Chair of the American Alliance of Museums’ Security Committee. He has spoken at the ASIS International and the AAM annual seminars on cultural property emergency management and risk assessment, developing tabletop exercises, and security customer service training. In February, 2016 he led a group of council members speaking at the IFEMA\Feria Madrid security conference about the need for the international community of cultural property security professionals to work together on developing solutions to current issues such terrorism, performing risk assessments that lead to tiered solutions based upon risk, and the ROI for cultural property security. Robert is one a select group of security professionals to have earned ASIS International triple certification in security management, physical security, and investigations and was profiled in the January, 2016 Security Management Magazine Certificant Spotlight. Additionally, he is an NFPA Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS), an IFCPP Certified Institutional Protection Manager (CIPM), and an IAI Certified Forensic Interviewer (CFI). Robert holds an MS in Protection Management from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and an MS in Computer Information Systems from Baruch College.
