Karen Malpede,  teaches in the Communications Theater Arts and Environmental Justice programs. She is an ecofeminist, pacifist playwright and is the author, and frequently the director, of 18 full-length plays plus shorter drama, and short fiction and essays. She is co-founder with George Bartenieff of the 22 year-old social justice Theater Three Collaborative which develops and her produces her new plays.  TTCs productions have premiered in Veroli, Italy; New York; London; Pristina, Kosovo; Berlin; and Paris. A volume of her recent plays, Plays in Time: The Beekeeper’s Daughter, Prophecy, Another Life, Extreme Whether is forthcoming from Intellect Press in 2017. She is editor of Acts of War: Iraq & Afghanistan in Seven Plays (2011); Women in Theater: Compassion & Hope; Three Works by the Open Theatre; and People’s Theater. She is author of a collection of early plays A Monster Has Stolen the Sun and Other Plays. At John Jay, she teaches in the Communications and Theater Arts Department and the Sustainability and Environmental Justice program. NYFA, McKnight, Art Matters fellowships for playwriting. She has also taught at NYU and Smith College. MFA Columbia. Her writings on social and enviornmental justice have appeared in The Kenyon Reivew, Torture Magazine, The Brooklyn Reader, The Drama Review, New Theatre Quarterly, Howlround, New York Times  and elesewhere.
