Bio

Professor Reitz is Associate Professor in the English Department both at John Jay and the CUNY Graduate Center. She is also Co-Director of the John Jay - Vera Fellows Program in the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies. A native of Cincinnati, Prof R received her M.A. and Ph.D. from Brown University and taught at Queens College, the University of Cincinnati, and Saint Louis University before joining John Jay in 2006. Her areas of interest include crime fiction, 19th Century British Studies, literature of empire, feminist theory, and theories of the novel. She is the Executive Editor of Clues: A Journal of Detection as well as the author of Detecting the Nation: Fictions of Detection and the Imperial Venture (Ohio State, 2004). Her work has appeared in Novel, Genre, 19th Century Studies, Textus, Carlyle StudiesVictorian Literature and Culture, Dickens Studies Annual as well as various essay collections and encyclopedias. She is the editor of Arthur Conan Doyle's The Sign of the Four forthcoming from Oxford World's Classics. Professor R is currently at work on a book about angry women and crime fiction for Cambridge University Press's Elements in Crime Narrative.
