Brian Kohlhepp is a native of the Pittsburgh area where he still lives with his family.  He is a Detective Sergeant at the Ross Township Police Department.  Here he oversees the Detective Division as well as the Forensic Investigation Unit.  He is also a department Public Information Officer handling all media events for major incidents and investigations.  Detective Sgt. Kohlhepp has conducted forensic investigations and has processed crime scenes ranging from death investigation and sexual assault to burglary and theft.  He has testified as an expert in Forensic Crime Scene Reconstruction.  In addition to the forensics, Detective Sgt. Kohlhepp investigates all major criminal incidents such as suspicious deaths, sexual assaults, and child abuse.  He is a member of the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task force.  He has over 1500 hours of specialized training in various policing subjects and is a certified polygraph examiner.  He has a BA from Waynesburg University in Criminal Justice and a Master of Arts in Social Sciences from California University of Pennsylvania (Summa cum Laude). 

     In addition, he is a certified instructor in policing through the FBI and MPOETC.  Detective Sgt. Kohlhepp is an Assistant Professor for graduate courses at California University of PA, Legal Studies.  He also serves as program director and instructor of numerous criminal investigation and forensic continuing education classes for attorneys and law enforcement at the Center for Law and Public Policy at California University of PA.  He is on faculty teaching undergraduate and graduate classes for John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and has conducted various continuing education seminars on campus in New York City.  Detective Sgt. Kohlhepp also serves on the faculty, teaching at Duquesne University in the Forensic Science and Law program, and Waynesburg University’s Master’s in Criminal Investigations program.  In addition, he has given numerous lectures on these topics to agencies including: the Allegheny County Office of the Medical Examiner, Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office, Beaver County District Attorney’s Office, the Pennsylvania State Police, and the Pennsylvania State Coroner’s Convention and many more.  

     Detective Sgt. Kohlhepp was the lead investigator in a multi-jurisdictional investigation of a violent serial rapist that gained national media attention and led to an arrest and successful prosecution.  In addition, he has worked several cases with the FBI and was detailed to Pittsburgh Police Homicide for a the murder of an armored truck employee and a robbery of 2.3 million dollars.  This included a national manhunt that gained significant media attention and featured on America’s Most Wanted.  This case resulted in an arrest in Florida and a first-degree murder conviction.
