Sophomore Peer Leader

Sophomore Peer Leaders are students who provide guidance and support to current sophomores as representatives of the Office of Student Academic Success Programs (SASP). The goal of the Sophomore Program is to support sophomores with the expansion of their network, identifying and planning for special opportunities, engaging in career-related research, and exploring and choosing the best major/minors for them. To accomplish this, peer leaders facilitate engagement events, host information sessions, provide tips for success, and stay connected to students in a variety of ways.

What are the qualifications and requirements?

  • Be a full-time John Jay student
  • Maintain at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA
  • Have earned between 54 and 90 credits by the start of the Fall 2019 semester
  • Able to work a minimum of 8 hours per week between 9am and 5pm during the semester
  • Attend all trainings and monthly staff meetings
  • Genuine desire to help students
  • Enthusiasm for promoting events and representing John Jay
  • Familiarity with John Jay services and resources
  • Desire to work with and contribute to the success of a team

What are the primary duties?

  • Plan, recruit, and facilitate engaging events, activities, and workshops on topics related to student success
  • Complete phone, text, and email outreach to sophomore students
  • Understand campus resources and provide guidance and referrals to sophomores
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff at John Jay to provide support to sophomores
  • Create and maintain a professional ePortfolio to showcase achievements
  • Perform related duties as assigned

What is the compensation?

Earn $15 for 8-10 hours per week between 9am–5pm during the semester.
